Safeguarding Policy

Last updated: August 2025

The safety, dignity and wellbeing of every child and vulnerable person in our care is our highest priority. This policy sets out our commitment to protecting them from harm.

Our commitment

Kerimat Foundation believes that every child and young person has the right to be safe, respected and protected from abuse, neglect and exploitation. Safeguarding is the responsibility of everyone connected to the foundation, including trustees, staff, volunteers, partners and visitors.

Protecting identity and images

To protect the children in our care, we do not publish the real names, faces or identifying details of any child without proper consent and a clear protective purpose. Photographs used across this website and our materials are representative or use changed names where dignity requires. This is a deliberate safeguarding measure, not an oversight.

Safe recruitment and care

  • Staff and volunteers are screened before working with children.
  • Caregivers receive guidance on child protection and appropriate conduct.
  • Visits to the home are by appointment and are supervised at all times.
  • Children are cared for in a safe, clean and nurturing environment.

Reporting concerns

Anyone with a concern about the safety or welfare of a child connected to Kerimat Foundation should contact us immediately at info@kerimatfoundation.org.ng. All concerns are taken seriously, handled sensitively and, where appropriate, referred to the relevant authorities.

Regulatory oversight

Kerimat Foundation operates under the oversight of the Edo State Ministry of Social Development and Gender Issues and is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria. We cooperate fully with all relevant child protection authorities.
